A global-warming skeptic says President Obama is out of touch with reality and his own party in connection with his announcement on Friday that he wants greenhouse-gas emissions reduced 28 percent by 2020.

The president's mandate directs federal agencies to make reductions in emissions by measuring their current energy and fuel use, becoming more energy efficient, and shifting to clean energy sources like solar, wind, and geothermal. Marc Marano, executive editor at ClimateDepot.com, tells OneNewsNow this is a pure political move by President Obama.

"More and more politicians are getting the courage to stand up and say this is silliness," says Morano. "The [climate change] movement's collapsing, but this is President Obama's only thing he can do because he can't deliver anything through the Senate. His own party refuses to pass a climate bill."

According to the White House, lowering emissions would save $8 billion to $11 billion in energy costs through 2020. Morano calls those "phantom numbers."

"People need carbon-based energy [and] they need it now," he emphasizes. "We are going to be running into massive shortages, and this is statistical modeling silliness that they're trying to do when they come out with all these alleged savings we're going to have.

"We're going to have an energy crisis; we're going to have energy rationing if we try to follow this mandate," Morano argues. "They're going to fail to achieve emission reductions, while at the same time energy rationing [will be] causing much higher energy prices."

Morano says this pledge by President Obama will have no impact on controlling the earth's temperature.
