The Parents Television Council has released its annual list of best and worst TV sponsors this Christmas season.

Companies on the "best list" -- that is, those that predominately sponsored family-friendly programs -- include names such as General Mills, Clorox Company, Coca-Cola, Ford Motor Company, and Wal-Mart. Sponsors on the "worst list" include Yum! Brands (KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell), General Motors, Burger King, DIRECTV, and others that supported shows with foul language, violence, and sexual themes and images. (See complete lists)

Glenn Erickson with the PTC says it is important to support family-friendly sponsors.

"Consider these better advertisers when doing your Christmas shopping -- just keep them in mind," he suggests. "One of the terrific ways that we can recognize these responsible advertisers is to support their product line and keep them in mind as we do our holiday shopping, and frankly our grocery shopping and day-to-day shopping. ... "

The top-ten list is based on each company's primetime network television ad buys during the past season.
