Our Gangster President by Greg Williamson January 31, 2010
Gangster Webster defines "gangster" as "a member of a gang of criminals" and refers to "racketeer," which means "one who obtains money by an illegal enterprise usually involving intimidation." [REF] In popular usage, however, "gangster" has come to stand for a form or style of management characterized by the use of fear, intimidation, and brute force. Which, I submit, is the type of philosophy that drives Barack Obama, making him our Gangster President or, if you prefer, Gangster-in-Chief. (DISCLAIMER: I am not accusing President Obama of criminal activity, which is something I would never do -- at least not in a written document intended for public distribution!)
Bipartisanship? "Bipartisan" can be defined as "of, relating to, or involving members of two parties (a bipartisan commission); specifically: marked by or involving cooperation, agreement, and compromise between two major political parties (bipartisan support for the bill)." [REF] President Obama is a master manipulator who speaks of bipartisanship while attempting to completely shut out the opposition. If he really wants to work together to reach workable solutions, as he has claimed repeatedly, then a good place to start would be for him to stop being so combative in his public speeches. As much as President Obama may wish otherwise, this is still America and not the former USSR. Our government was formed for/by "we the people," not for/by elitists who want us to get out of the way so they can solve all our problems for us.
Demonize the Opposition President Obama continues to demonize anyone/everyone who opposes his ultra-liberal agenda. Recently he has been accusing the Republicans of painting him as evil and whipping the entire country into a frenzy over healthcare. (I am sure the Republicans wish they really did have that much influence.) Ignoring clear and present signs of opposition by millions of Americans -- public rallies/TEA parties; recent election results, most notably in Massachusetts; and public opinion polls, including those that show him having the dubious honor of being the most unpopular president ever at the beginning of his second year in office -- President Obama is stubbornly and recklessly determined to push his agenda on us. (In what has to be the ultimate example of "spin to win," ultra-liberals have interpreted the country's discontent as a sign that President Obama has not gone far enough fast enough rather than, as is actually the case, he has tried to go way too far way too fast.)
Egomaniacal "Egomania" refers to "the quality or state of being extremely egocentric" [REF] (= "I am the center of my own universe"). Many people have taken note of President Obama's arrogance and the fact that he seems more interested in polishing his own self-image than in serving and protecting the country that elected him to office. Which helps to explain why: 1) he refuses to humbly admit when he is wrong, 2) he takes opposition to his policies as an assault on him personally, and 3) he has such low regard for us lesser mortals.
Missing A Golden Opportunity Following the longest, most expensive presidential campaign in our country's history, Barack Hussein Obama rode a wave of popular discontent into the oval office. Making history as the first black/African American president, he has missed an incredible opportunity to unite our country's citizenry around the core values that have made America great: liberty (= freedom), limited government, and personal responsibility. Instead, he continues to advance polarizing policies that are pushing us ever closer toward a total meltdown.
We need to be diligent in our refusal to be fooled by our Gangster President's rhetoric. This is the same man who took office a year ago. Catchy campaign slogans notwithstanding, his agenda remains rock solid -- rock solid wrong, that is. Barring a miracle straight out of Scripture (for which we should be praying fervently), there appears little "hope" he will ever "change."
Our Greatest Need We are in the mess we are in because, as a country, we have turned our back on God. While the vast majority of Americans would claim that God is important to them, in many if not most cases it is a god of their own making who allows them to do whatever whenever. Which absolutely is not the God of the Bible. The one and only true God loves us enough to hold us accountable for our actions, including chastising us when we persist in wrongdoing. Our greatest need is for national repentance, revival, and renewal.
