THE FULL ARMOR OF
GOD
(Ephesians 6:10-18)
|
10
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.
11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm
against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our
struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the
powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces
of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so
that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to
stand firm.

14 Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH
TRUTH, |
MONDAY
"a believer's integrity
and faithfulness"*
"The state of the heart answering to God's truth;
inward, practical acknowledgment of the truth as it is in Him: the agreement
of our convictions with God's revelation."** |

and HAVING PUT ON
THE BREASTPLATE OF
RIGHTEOUSNESS, |
TUESDAY
"the sanctifying righteousness of Christ practiced
in a believer's life"*
"righteousness in works,
truth in words"***
"Integrity, holiness, purity of life, sincerity of
piety."+ |
|
15 and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF
THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; |
WEDNESDAY
"a believer's stability or surefootedness from
the gospel which gives him peace so he can stand in the battle."*
"Preparedness to do and suffer all that God wills; readiness for march,
as a Christian soldier. ... The 'peace' within forms a beautiful contrast to
the raging of the outward conflict."***
|
|
16 in addition to all, taking up
the shield of faith
with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil
one. |
THURSDAY
"a Christian's resolute
faith in the Lord"*
"Temptation acts on susceptible material.
Self-confidence is combustible. Faith, in doing away with dependence on
self, takes away fuel for the dart. It creates sensitiveness to holy
influences by which the power of temptation is neutralized. It enlists the
direct aid of God."** |
|
17 And take
THE HELMET OF SALVATION, |
FRIDAY
"refers either to present
safety from the devil's attacks or to a future deliverance, 'the hope of
salvation as a helmet' (1Th 5:8)."*
"The meaning is the helmet which is
salvation."**
"A soldier would not fight well without a hope of
victory. A Christian could not contend with his foes, without the hope of
final salvation; but, sustained by this, what has he to dread?"+ |
|
and
the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God. |
SATURDAY
"'the sword given by the
Spirit.' 'The sword of the
Spirit' is specified as the Word of God. 'Word' (rhēma;
cf. Eph 5:26; Rom 10:8, 17; 1 Peter 1:25)
refers to the preached Word or an utterance of God occasioned by the Holy
Spirit in the heart."*
"What God has spoken - his truth and promises ... [W]e shall be safe if
we adhere to the simple declarations of the Bible, and oppose a temptation
by a positive command of God. But, the moment we leave that, and begin to
parley with sin, that moment we are gone. It is as if a man should throw
away his sword, and use his naked hands only in meeting an adversary."+
"There is no armor specified for the back, but only
for the front of the body; implying that we must never turn our back to the
foe; our only safety is in resisting ceaselessly."*** |
|
18 With all prayer and petition
pray
at all times in
the Spirit, and with this in view,
be on the alert
with
all perseverance and petition for all the saints, |
SUNDAY
"The manner in which a soldier takes up these last
two pieces of armor is suggested by ... 'praying' and 'being alert.' When
the enemy attacks -- and on all occasions -- Christians are to
pray continually in the Spirit (i.e., in the power and sphere of
the Spirit; cf. Jude 1:20). With all kinds of prayers and requests
suggests the thoroughness and intensity of their praying. And like reliable
soldiers, they are to be keeping alert, literally, 'in all
persistence' ... Their requests are to be for all the saints because
of Satan's spiritual warfare against Christ and the church. In the Greek
'all' occurs four times in this verse; three are translated in the NIV and
the fourth is rendered as
always (lit., 'in all times' or 'every time')."*
"No matter how complete the armor; no matter how
skilled we may be in the science of war; no matter how courageous we may be,
we may be certain that without prayer we shall be defeated. God alone can
give the victory; and when the Christian soldier goes forth armed completely
for the spiritual conflict, if he looks to God by prayer, he may be sure of
a triumph."+ |

PRAY FOR THE HOLY
SPIRIT'S FILLING EVERY DAY, &
PRAYERFULLY REFLECT ON
PARTICULAR FRUIT EACH DAY |
|
THE HOLY SPIRIT'S FILLING
(Galatians 5:16-26; Ephesians
5:15-20)
|
16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then
you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves.
17 The sinful nature
wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And
the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature
desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not
free to carry out your good intentions.
18 But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not
under obligation to the law of Moses.
19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the
results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,
20 idolatry, sorcery,
hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition,
dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like
these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort
of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our
lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, and
self-control. There is no law against these things!
24 Those who belong to
Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to
his cross and crucified them there.
25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the
Spirit's leading in every part of our lives.
26 Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another,
or be jealous of one another.
--
Galatians 5:16-26,
NLT
15 So be careful how you
live. Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise.
16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil
days.
17 Don't act thoughtlessly,
but understand what the Lord wants you to do.
18 Don't be drunk with
wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,
19 singing psalms and
hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your
hearts.
20 And give
thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

CONFESS TO & ASK FOR
VICTORY OVER
SINFUL AREAS, SINFUL
CHOICES, & SINFUL HABITS |
CONFESSION

8 If we claim
we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the
truth.

-
thinking I am so wise when in reality I am so far from it

If they turn to you with their whole heart and soul ... 49
then hear their prayers and their petition from heaven where you live,

the Lord. Lift up your hands to him in prayer, pleading for your
